Caramelized fruits
Caramelizing fruit is a very simple and delicious cooking technique that is used in almost all the places around the globe. For fruit and sugary food lovers, this is the most ideal way to have them as a delicious dessert. Almost all types of fruit can be caramelized depending on the size of the fruit you want to caramelize. Small fruits like cherries can be caramelized as a whole and the larger fruits like apples or bananas should be cubed before caramelizing. Adding some lemon juice while caramelizing gives an extra lift to the taste of caramelized fruit. Caramelized fruit would also be a great addition to my melon berry basket.
For caramelizing fruit you need
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 tbsp water
- 1tbsp lemon juice (optional)
- A heavy base
Method
- Just combine 1 cup granulated sugar and 4 tbsp of water in a heavy base.
- Stir over on low heat till the sugars have dissolved. When the mixture boils, squeeze a bit of lemon and boil till the syrup turns to a deep golden brown.
- Carefully add 1 tbsp of water and shake the pan to mix. Then spear a piece of fruit on a fork and dip into the caramel to coat and leave until it cools and hardens. Your caramelized fruits are now ready to serve.
